In Killarney for the 3 Irish Open
Ross has travelled to county Kerry in the south of Ireland for the 3 Irish Open at Killarney Golf and Fishing club.

It is the first of three big events as Ross makes a charge at the Race to Dubai and the Ryder Cup team.

"This is not my first time in Killarney as I actually played the Ireland Ryder Cup Challenge here back in 2005,” said Ross.  “I had a good week then too, think I finished 8th, certainly in the top-10 anyway.  They have three courses here at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, and this week’s course is different to the one I played five years ago.  The Killeen course we are playing this week is, I think, their flagship course.  It is in superb condition.

"But I think poor weather over the last few months hampered preparations for the event.  The European Tour would have preferred longer rough, but that is not the case this week and we won’t get overly punished if we miss the fairway.”

Ross continued: “It's a relatively short course too, so unless the wind picks up I think the scoring here will be quite low.  Short game will be key this week, certainly from a wedge in, as many of the holes a re a drive or 3 wood and a short iron.  But it should make for an exciting tournament as there will be plenty of birdies and plenty of good golf being played.”

"Jo and Eve are with me this week, staying at the Europe Hotel.  It's a fantastic hotel with stunning views looking out over the Killarney lakes.  It's an amazing setting here.

"Eve had her first birthday last Sunday.  We had to ask ourselves 'How quickly has that year gone?'  What a great year it has been for us, though, and she means everything to Jo and I.  To have them with me for the week at St. Andrews and again here in Ireland is a really nice bonus."

Ross has been drawn to play alongside Shane Lowry, the 2009 Irish Open Champion, and fellow Englishman David Horsey.  Ross knows that Lowry's presence will draw a big crowd, and is looking forward to getting into the action:

"I know Shane and David well, both are great guys so it should be a good opening few days to the tournament here," continued Ross.

"Obviously there will be plenty of support for Shane, and it is well deserved.  What he achieved in Baltray last year was phenomenal, and to see him grow in stature since becoming a pro is remarkable.  Shane is a very talented player, and he is already well grounded out here on the European Tour.

"I have a new caddy this week. Phil 'Wobbly' Morbey is on my bag for the first time and hopefully it’s the beginning of a good relationship.

"Adam (Marrow) and I had a few great years together, we really did, and Adam played a huge part in helping me get to where I am today.  But I made the decision that I needed a change.  It was a difficult decision as Adam and I are great friends, and of course we still are.”

Ross concluded: "I am looking forward to working with Wobbly.  He is one of the most experienced guys on Tour, and I have three big tournaments so we will get right into the thick of things.  Let’s hope it starts well with a good week here in Ireland."

After this weeks Irish Open, Ross travels to the US for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and then the final Major of the season, the US PGA Championship.
